Big Decisions

Earlier this week I made the big decision to put all my other side writing projects on the back burner, so I can put all my focus on my book. I have also decided to bring Brian and Brooke’s story to life before Andy and Lucy’s. Instead I’m going to introduce them as the best friend characters in what I’ve titled The Big Gamble.

I’m working on a synopsis for The Big Gamble that I will be posting very soon. I’m really excited to introduce Brian and Brooke to the world and I’m hoping everyone will love them as much as I do.

What I’m Working On

The Boy Next Door is a story that I’ve been working on for the past few months as a practice book if you will, to help me structure a story. Brooke and Brian are two very special characters for me, they came about during a pretty rough time in my life and gave me the push I needed to get the hell back on the writing horse.

In The Boy Next Door we meet Brooke, a headstrong, career obsessed doctor at the end of her surgical residency in LA. Brooke found the love of her life early in life, only to have it ripped away way to soon. She resides to the fact that she will never find anyone who challenged her or loved her like Jake and puts love and relationships on the back burner. She makes the leap to move out on her own after living with roommates since moving to LA. During her first night in her “grown up apartment” as she calls it,  she discovers she has a rather noisy neighbor. After one too many sleepless nights from what seems like an endless parade women, she finally has enough and goes to confront her womanizing neighbor, Brian Gamble. The sexual tension radiates between them, sparking a fun game of cat and mouse.

Brian is an interesting mix of two of my favorite Jeremy Renner characters, both cops go figure. And a little bit of my hubby as well, so he’s a bad boy with a little heart. Brian is a cocky rule breaking cop with the LAPD. After opening his heart to a woman once before only to have it ripped out and stomped on, he say fuck it to love and keeps women at arms length. That is until a half naked Brooke shows up at his door one night. She doesn’t fall for his usual charm and she’s a frustrating pain in the ass but he just can’t get her out of his head.

Brooke and Brian’s story is still on going. You can see the first thirteen chapters on my AO3 and I love feedback so feel free to leave comments.

A Brief History

You’re probably wonder what got me started in writing, well I’ll tell you. About three years ago I started writing Fanfiction and don’t even start with the whole “Fanfiction is not real writing” crap because that is an argument you won’t win. At the time I hadn’t really written much other than legal documents for my job. It wasn’t until I started reading Fanfiction for this handsome fellow…

That suave motherfucker is Jeremy Renner (you’ll be seeing a lot of him around here) I’ve been a fan of Mr. Renner’s for almost twelve years. Back in the day when was starring opposite Colin Farrell in a little movie called S.W.A.T. But more on that later. So where was I? Oh yes, Fanfiction. So I had spent a couple days reading some very steamy Fanfiction and I thought “hell I could do this” and so my creative muse was born. My stories started out a bit rough until I finally found my nitch… Smutty goodness. I just write it well and my mind is constantly in the gutter so it made sense to go down the smut road.

Writing Fanfiction gave me more confidence in my writing and my ability to branch out and write stories with original characters and storylines. I’ve always been one to go after what I wanted, but writing a book scared the crap out of me. But after a complete mental breakdown a little over a year ago I realized I couldn’t hide behind fear anymore. If I crash and burn well at least I could say I tried.

There is one quote that I read in an interview that Jeremy did a few years ago that has always resonated with me “I live my life through fear. If I’m afraid of it, I’ll do it just so I’m not afraid of it anymore.”  So I’m facing my fear head the fuck on.

Friday Night….

It’s Friday night the hubby is coming down with a cold, so here I sit watching a wonderfully obscure independent movie on Netflix while researching firefighter terms for my book. Yep I’m living on the edge! But as a stay at home mom trying to write a book, nights like this are few and far between.

Firefighter terms? You ask, well here’s why.

Meet Lucy and Andy. Lucy and Andy are my two main characters for my book. Lucy is a sweet and goofy pastry chef from Seattle (of course my book will center in Seattle. Write what you know, so yeah) focused on her career and has no interest in finding love.

Andy is a romantic at heart firefighter (now you get it) who wants it all, career, wife and two point five kids and of course a dog. Andy meets who he thinks is the woman of his dreams at a party, who does things with buttercream frosting he didn’t even know could be done. He wakes to find his bed empty. She haunts his dreams, thinking he will never see her again. That is until he decides to tryout the new bakery down the street from the firehouse and finds his buttercream queen behind the counter.

I’m still working out all the plot details but I have a good start and will be sharing more about these characters as they grow. In the meantime you can check out my  Lucy and  Andy inspiration boards on Pinterest to get a better sense of who they are.
